Current Position
As part of my regular duties as Director of First-Year Writing, I
- Interview, hire, and supervise part-time instructors
- Conduct teaching observations of grad students, adjuncts, post-docs, and full-time faculty
- Teach the graduate Writing Pedagogy course and mentor graduate students in the teaching of writing
- Consult with the Associate Chair on staffing writing courses
- Serve on the hiring committee for post-doctoral fellows
- Plan and offer pre-semester professional development meetings for the program
- Plan and offer smaller professional development activities throughout the year
- Plan and offer workshops and consultations with faculty across campus on how best to bring writing into their classrooms
- Develop transfer agreements between UD and other institutions
- Supervise exemption requests by transfer students
- Mediate disagreements and concerns between students and faculty
- Supervise the selection of Honors sections of ENGL 110 with the Honors Program
- Supervise and contribute to choosing the Innovative Teaching Award, Arak Award, and publication of the Arak Anthology
- Represent the writing program at New Student Orientation and recruiting events
Previous Administrative Positions
When I served as Associate Director of the Writing Centers, my regular duties included
- Managed the day-to-day operations of the writing center, including developing and maintaining the tutoring schedule
- Taught the Tutor-Preparation course, ENGL 392: Teaching Writing One-to-One
- Led professional development meetings almost every week
- Recruited faculty, trained students, and assigned faculty and tutors for the Writing Across the Curriculum Writing Fellows Program
- Attended promotional events for the center
- Assisted with advertising and managing the First-Year Experience Essay contest
- Supported tutors and receptionists with questions during daily operations;
- Communicated with faculty and administrators across campus about the writing center
When I served as Associate Directot of the Writing Program, my regular duties included
- Assist with classroom observations of new adjuncts and graduate student teachers of composition courses
- Assist with the mentoring program for first-year MA students
- Liaise with area high schools and teachers participating in Dual Enrollment ENGL 110
- Evaluate possible exemption from ENGL 110 for transfer students who have taken
- similar writing courses at other institutions
- Assist in coordinating teaching support initiatives.
- Coordinate efforts to promote undergraduate writing supported by funds from the Arak
- endowment through managing and editing the Arak Journal.
- Assist with in-service meetings for composition faculty
- Coordinate Honors E110 sections with the Honors Program
